Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
The Shared Vision and Rationale was created in the ITEC 7410: Instructional Technology Leadership course. My current school did not have a separate vision for technology, but our school system has an extensive outlook on the future of technology. This assignment not only contains my vision for technology, but it also includes the importance of integrating technology into our classrooms and how our stakeholders can play a major role in this endeavor. I entitled my project, Integrating Technology into Our Classrooms because technology can greatly improve the lives of all of our students. Technology is able to bridge the gap between gender, socioeconomic status, while enriching our students, and increasing our instructional teaching practices.
To facilitate the development and implementation of my shared vision and rationale, I had to begin by creating a technology survey for our teachers. The survey included a variety of multiple choice and short answers. Many of the questions that I asked referred to our vision for technology, teacher’s comfort levels with using technology, how they used technology in their classrooms, professional development needed, and even barriers that they are encountering. Our school did not have a technology vision, so I had to try and create a vision that would support our school climate and available resources. Along with the teacher surveys I also had to also rely on my background knowledge, peer discussions, and personal readings to gain the knowledge needed to develop a shared vision for my school.
It was really difficult to create a shared vision for my school. I had so many ideas and thoughts that I felt that needed to be stated. It was extremely hard to narrow it down. In the beginning I felt that my statement was extremely vague. After careful reflection I realized that technology is a tool for learning, but it will not have the impact on our student’s lives unless we use technology to develop a technology-rich curriculum and learner centered classrooms to meet the needs of all of our students. If I had to change one aspect of my artifact it would be including our stakeholder’s thoughts and observations. My artifact only included the staffs thoughts and ideas.
This artifact was shared with my administration and during our data meetings and other discussions, an instructional technology committee was created. My shared vision along with the other committee members ideas are helping to shape the future of my school. Five chrome book carts have been purchased for our fourth and fifth grade students. With this purchase we have also been giving our teachers more professional development, but it is geared towards their classroom needs. We are also in the process of obtaining an enhanced role in our school, which will be geared towards technology. With this enhanced role, we will be able to have personnel in our building to really support the technological needs of our school.
