Artifact: Diversity, Cultural Understanding, & Global Awareness Blog Posting
During the ITEC 7430: Internet Tools in the Classroom course I read several articles and investigated a variety of technology resources and websites. For this standard I chose to use one of my blog postings for this artifact. This particular blog was created after reviewing three internet websites and analyzing several articles on the future of Web 2.0 technology. I focused on how our teachers and parents can model and facilitate keeping our students safe on the internet and how Web 2.0 tools are transforming our schools.
Almost twenty years ago all of the students in our classrooms looked exactly alike and there was not even a thought of using Smartboards or internet resources to teach our students. Now our classrooms are quite a mixture of our globally diverse populations. With these changes in our schools, technology is also expanding to support our diverse student needs along with enhancing our cultural understandings. Several years ago only the most affluent schools had this type of technology in their schools, but now this technology is readily available everywhere. Many of these resources now can be purchased at low costs or they are freely available for our students. Using technology in our classrooms helps increase communication skills, differentiation to meet our students learning needs along with increasing all of our global awareness. Students are able to use the internet to step outside of our classroom, community, and reach across the globe. These resources will help our student’s research, produce, and build on their understanding about the world around them.
During this blog posting I learned a great deal about internet safety and fostering cultural understanding and global awareness in our classrooms. While reviewing this posting I noticed that I also focused on how these resources were going to impact our teachers. For example, providing our teachers with professional development and the much needed time to implement these resources in our classrooms. Looking back on this blog posting I believe that I could have included some of resources that can make a difference in our classes.
My blog posting has mainly been shared with the other students in my cohort at KSU. Through the Beaver Bytes, at my school, I have been consistently sharing resources as well as articles that I feel will benefit and support our staff. I hope that the impact can be assessed by viewing the change in our school usage of technology.
