Artifact: Screencast Video on MAP testing
During the ITEC 7430: Internet Tools in the Classroom course I investigated a variety of tools and resources. By far my favorite tool was Screencast and Jing. These two tools have become a staple for me to share resources or directions with my teachers and even my parents. For this standard, I shared a Jing video that I created for my staff to help understand how to pull their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) reports and identify the student growth.
This is our second year using MAP and this nationally normed achievement test is given three times a year. It is given online and it provides reports within twenty-four hours of taking the assessment. For many of our staff it provides a variety of reports, but at my school we only focus on a couple of the reports. We mainly focus on the reports that will help us identify the students RIT band, their projected growth, and the learning continuum. We were given an initial training, but with all of the other initiatives, for some, they found it difficult to navigate. In the video I showed how to log in and where to locate their reports. After downloading one of the reports I even showed how to identify their students projected growth.
I really enjoy using MAP and reviewing the student reports. These reports provide our staff with a wealth of information. For example, the learning continuum identifies what state standards the student has mastered and it identifies the standards that the student is ready to be exposed to. This information is great for creating small groups sessions and for differentiating your lessons. Looking back over this video I realize that I need to show the other reports that can be downloaded and review how they can be used in our classrooms. During the video I only spotlighted the summary and growth reports for my teachers. Recently during my coaching session, my mentee has expressed that she would like some step by step help with setting up Odyssey and Renaissance Learning for her students.
After creating this video, I shared it with my staff in the weekly Beaver Bytes news that goes out to our staff. In this weekly publication I try and share new technology resources that can have a positive impact on our instruction and student learning as well as just being helpful. The impact can be assessed during our weekly collaborative planning, differentiated lesson plans, and student achievement.
