Artifact: Screencast Video for Zeal
During the ITEC 7430: Internet Tools in the Classroom course I had to investigate a variety of new tools. Two of the tools that I chose to work with were Screencast and a math resource called Zeal Tutoring. I currently teach advanced content math and reading classes for grades K-2 and I am constantly looking for resources to extend and enrich my students learning. During our weekly collaborative planning I also offer insight into how to remediate and differentiate for all of our students. While looking at these two resources I decided to create a sample video, for my collaborative teachers, about this wonderful resource and how simple it is to use. For this standard, I chose to share my screencast that I created for this math resource.
Zeal tutoring is great math resource that offers pre-made Common Core aligned exit tickets in mathematics. Zeal can be used to differentiate math to our students and it provides great feedback to guide our lessons. As a free app, it offers the free pre-made exit tickets and the student growth reports. It does offer a real online tutor that can support individual students to help them master their goals, if you purchase the paid version of this program. To begin the teacher sets up their class or individual groups along with their student goals. Students are given a class code to login and begin their assessments. The program will manage and monitor the students’ progress and provide the teacher with reports, which can be used to guide instruction. This is a great tool to use during center time, so students can work at their own pace and it can be assigned for homework to help with remediation. If students need assistance the app will read the questions and answer choices for them. It also provides them with an area that students can use for scratch work.
One of my favorite tools by far is Screencast and Jing. While working on several projects I have realized that it is so much easier for others to follow along when they have a video present. Looking back over the video that I created, I needed to expand how you can use this tool for remediation. I briefly discussed what would happen if you did not meet your goal, but I did not physically show it in my video. Also, I needed to show where you could access the reports too.
After creating this video, I shared it with my staff in the weekly Beaver Bytes news that goes out to our staff. In this weekly publication I try and share new technology resources that can have a positive impact on our instruction and student learning. The impact can be assessed during our weekly collaborative planning, differentiated lesson plans, and student achievement.
