5.3 Program Evaluation
Candidates design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. (PSC 5.3/ISTE 4c)
Artifact: Technology Workshop Survey
I chose the Technology Workshop survey to represent standard 5.3, which focuses on Program Evaluation. During the ITEC 7460: Professional Learning & Technology Innovation course this survey was created in conjunction with the Technology Workshop. It was designed and implemented to determine the overall effectiveness of the material that I presented to my staff and to help me make necessary changes to how I present professional development to my staff.
The Technology Workshop was focused on our new learning management system called ItsLearning. ItsLearning is a learning management system that provides our teachers with an online resource to support our ever changing classrooms. This resource has several attractive features for teachers such as, planners, easy way to communicate with our students and parents, and analytic tools to analyze classroom or individual data. Our teacher’s content knowledge of ItsLearning will influence how they will use and evaluate this resource. I am hoping that by introducing them to this resource it will improve their pedagogical skills by influencing how they can engage and interact with their students and concepts. Our students will be capable of participating in online discussions, submit assignments and receive feedback from their teachers, and the ability to create projects, which will have a definite influence on their student learning. ItsLearning will replace SeeSaw, Edmodo, and Google
Classroom and provide us all with one platform to use throughout our school system.
While reviewing the results from my technology workshop survey I noticed that my survey should have had a place for my participants to add their name. I normally like for my surveys to be anonymous, but if my colleagues have questions I will be unable to identify which teacher needs assistance. I believe that I can change this by indicating on the survey form that if they need additional help or if they have questions they should place their name after the question.
This post survey can have a significant impact on the launch of ItsLearning in our system and it can help clear up any misconceptions that teachers may have. Also, this professional development session can also be assessed by analyzing the post surveys and by observing the use of ItsLearning in our building.
