I really enjoyed this course because we got to delve deeper into technology. During this course we moved beyond technology resources and implementing them into our classrooms to how technology is viewed by our parents, teachers, and stakeholders while making sure that these resources are available for all of our students. All of the field assignments focused on the Visionary Leadership, Professional Learning & Program Evaluation, and Candidate Professional Growth & Development. Having a clear, measurable, and objective vision for technology can make or break how technology is used in our schools. When teachers do not fully understand the importance of integrating technology into their classrooms this becomes a barrier that enables them from moving forward. Technology is then just used for remediation or skill and drill instead of practicing those skills that are higher on Bloom's Taxonomy.
After reviewing my school's SIP plan and our district's technology plan and improvement plan, I realize that our school's vision is extremely vague. If I were an outsider looking in, it would appear that technology is just an afterthought when I know that our administration and district leaders eagerly support the implementation of technology. Along with the SIP plan, I really enjoyed creating the technology survey. Once I got a chance to review the surveys and their responses I was really surprised by some of the responses. With all of the resources that we have available I was expecting more of our teachers to be using technology to collaborate, create products, and gathering data. Fortunately, many of the participants are using technology everyday in their classrooms, but not in the way that I had envisioned. Each participant did request for differentiated professional development because they all understood that their needs would be different for each teacher. I look forward to going back to my school and sharing these field experiences and making some changes in our vision for technology and the integration of technology into our curriculum.
