I always start each class off by looking over the syllabus and checking out the final project. When I looked at ITEC 7445 I felt so overwhelmed when I saw coding by hand, the audio assignment, and creating a WebQuest. I really didn’t think I was going to get it all done, but I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did I complete these skills assignments, but I learned a great deal in the process. Each assignment challenged my way of thinking and encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone. Not only did I have to create the skill assignment, but I had to understand the workings behind making it. Hand coding was the trickiest, but I really enjoyed the audio assignment the most. I’ve used Audacity quite a few times since then and I’ve shared this tool with my collaborative planning groups too. One teacher is using Audacity to help with reading fluency in her class. She is having students tape themselves as they are reading passages. Students later review their tapings so they can work on sight word recognition, fluency, and decoding skills.
The WebQuest was another adventure that I didn’t feel that I was prepared for, but I was pleasantly surprised about how easy it was. I really enjoyed making the WebQuest. It’s a great tool for my students and I’m in the process of creating another one. For me, the WebQuest was a great way to stay organized and provide differentiation for my students. Some of the challenges I faced this semester was just time management. It just seemed like there were so many assignments to keep up with along with my other school responsibilities and this thing we call life. It was easy to forget one and then have to rush. It was also great having both this class and the ITEC 7430 together because many of the skills we learned could be used in the other class as well.
